Terms of Service

Last updated: May 1, 2026

1. Acceptance

By using JobSentinel (the website, API, browser extension, or CLI tool), you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. Service Description

JobSentinel is a free, open-source tool that analyzes job postings for scam indicators. It provides a risk score and signal breakdown to help you make informed decisions about job opportunities. JobSentinel is not a guarantee — it is a decision-support tool.

3. No Warranty

  • JobSentinel is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind.
  • We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of scam detection results.
  • A low risk score does not guarantee a job posting is legitimate. A high risk score does not guarantee it is a scam.
  • Always perform your own due diligence before applying to any job or sharing personal information.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree to:

  • Use the service only for analyzing job postings for personal safety purposes.
  • Not exceed the rate limit (10 requests/minute for the web API).
  • Not submit malicious input (scripts, exploits, or intentionally crafted payloads).
  • Not use the API for automated mass scraping or data collection.
  • Not impersonate JobSentinel or misrepresent analysis results as official determinations.

5. User Reports

When you submit a report (marking a posting as scam or legitimate), you grant JobSentinel a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use that report to improve detection accuracy. Reports should be honest and in good faith.

6. Rate Limits

  • Web API: 10 requests per minute per IP address.
  • Browser extension: Subject to the same API rate limits.
  • CLI tool: No rate limits when running locally.

Exceeding rate limits will result in HTTP 429 responses. Persistent abuse may result in temporary IP blocks.

7. Open Source License

The JobSentinel software is released under the MIT License. You are free to use, modify, and distribute the software according to that license. These Terms of Service govern the hosted service at jobsentinel.org and api.jobsentinel.org, not the open-source software itself.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, JobSentinel and its contributors shall not be liable for any damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to:

  • Financial losses from relying on scam detection results.
  • Missed job opportunities due to false positive scam alerts.
  • Data loss or service interruptions.

9. Service Availability

JobSentinel is a free, community-maintained project. We make no guarantees about uptime, availability, or response times. The service may be modified, suspended, or discontinued at any time without notice.

10. Changes

We may update these terms as the service evolves. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms. Changes will be committed to the GitHub repository.
